OnlyDescriptiveTerms: for appearance on US, not diagnostic, though with some low reliability correlation with hepatic cirrhosis (scarring). Eg. study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2681891. The normal size & smooth outline suggests normal liver, not cirrhosis. The coarsened pattern could be consistent with low grade cirrhosis. Best avoid alcohol & low fat foods, consider tests for chronic viral hepatitis.

Normal but bumpy.: This is from an ultrasound exam of your liver. The outline of your liver is smooth, and its size and shape are normal. But the texture of your liver is coarse, or bumpy. This can mean some scarring of the liver, cirrhosis from alcohol, chronic hepatitis, or just a "fatty" liver. There are other rare causes. It helps to know the whole story.. why you had the test in the first place! Ask your doc.
