Yes: The pertussis vaccine only lasts a few years in protection, 5-10 at best. Most children who get the whole series of pertussis immunizations early in life are usually pretty well protected up to about age 11. After that it is important to get the teen and adult boosters regularly.

Yes: Up until the present pertussis vaccine was released, it was not given after the age of 6 due to the many side effects of the whole cell vaccine.Teens and adults with waining immunity often developed the "100 days cough" as the pertussis is often called.Today the acellular pertussis can be given to teens and adults and cut their risk and prevent the spread in the community.
