Cough: Pertussis is "whooping cough". A disease caused by infection w bordetella pertussis and the symptom that stands out is the intense paroxysm of cough followed by a inspiratory whoop. If your son was vaccinated he may have a milder case that will sound more like croup. It is probably a good idea to see ur peds doc. If your son is not vaccinated call your peds asap and get him examined + tested.

Bad cough: Generally a severe cough that seems to occur in spasms with constant coughing for 1-2 min or more.And facial color change or even the appearance of not being able to breath.Usually after having a cold for 1-2 weeks and then worsening.The classic whooping sound may or may not be present.
