A member asked:

What does up to 3mm mean on brain mri? as in hypeintensities is it 3mm or a less its confusing

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nonspecific: Most MRI cannot see something less than 3 mm in diameter, so if anything is seen, it is reported as "up to 3 mm". White matter hyperintensity is a common MRI finding. Small spots of white matter changes often do not correlate with any illness. 3 mm is very small.
