we read a lot about childless women having higher cancer risks. is remaining childless a dangerous thing? how serious is this?

Not very: On the whole, women who are childless have a higher risk of breast cancer than do women with many children. But that risk is modest. Most childless women will not develop cancer, so avoiding cancer is not, in itself, a good reason to have a child
