It depends: Foley catheter drainage due to a bladder damage allows the bladder to decompress and heal. Depending on how large the bladder injury will dictate the length the foley needs to stay. In some cases performing an imaging study called a retrograde cystogram can be performed to show the bladder is fully healed and does not leak prior to removing the catheter.
