How much weight will i gain when i lose my thyroid?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If you have I-131 ablation or surgical removal of your thyroid, you will be dependent on exogenous (from outside the body) thyroid hormone. Generally speaking, if you are adequately replaced, there is no reason that you should gain any amount of significant weight. This is more a function of the skill and therapeutic vigor of your doc rather than just the fact that your thyroid was removed.
