Cold sores: Oral herpes (cold sores) are commonly caused by HSV-1. Genital herpes is commonly caused by HSV-2. HSV-2 is not common in the mouth; however 80% of new genital herpes cases are now caused by HSV-1 through oral/genital contact. Is less likely to get oral herpes from someone with genital herpes but more likely to get genital herpes from someone with oral herpes. Best wishes!
