Doctor, two nights ago i noted that i have a swollen muscle in the lower part of my back on the left hand side. i do not feel any pain?

Might be old injury?: Might be an old injury, OR might be something else. Injuries is usually cause swelling, along with redness, tenderness, and heat. These are signs of healing in progress. If the swollen muscle is not tender/painful, it could be from an OLD injury. It might also be a cyst, a fatty tumor, or something else. It is hard to guess without seeing it. If you're concerned see your doc for evaluation.
