Teeth Whitening: Unfortunately, no. Clear retainers do not have the internal reservoirs required to hold the teeth whitening gel against your teeth.

Possibly: Retainers and whitening trays are constructed slightly differently. You might be better off with separate appliances. If retainers used for other purposes it may soften ther effective life span, meaning that you would have the inconvenience and cost of replacing them. Talk tis over with BOTH your Family Dentist and your Orthodontic Specialist.

No: Whitening trays have space fabricated in them to accomodate the whitening material. Clear retainers fit tightly and won't be as effective. The whitening material may also affect the clear retainers into being "no so clear" over time.

Ask: Different companies have different recommendations. The safest bet is to ask your dentist before doing so. It will likely be fine.

Retainers: I have used them myself, but your retainers may not last as long and I had normal bleaching trays first. If you try them use Vitamin E oil on the gum tissue before you place the bleaching liquid in your trays.

Retainers / Whiten: Hey Christina, Many retainers can double as whitening trays but you'll want to double check that with your dentist to make sure that the whitening agent will not damage the type of retainers you have :)

Yes with care: Even though it is possible to use clear retainers for whitening however, they are made fitted over teeth without reservoir for gel.
