Variable effects: In the laboratory, total sleep deprivation causes metabolism to increase in animals, so they eat voraciously and still lose weight (eventually they devlop other problems and die). Total sleep deprivation is not normally possible in humans. People who spend less time in bed are known to gain more weight.
