Trans rectally: The term excision refers to a local procedure where the lesion is limited in size, has not invaded muscular layers of the rectum and one can remove the lesion en-bloc. When the lesion is invasive then the term resection is employed which is a major surgical procedure, at times requiring a colostomy. This holds for adenoCa. With squamous Ca, bx, followed by RT and mitomycinC can be curative.
