The major difference: is that one set is temporary or disposable and the other is not. Structurally the baby teeth have a very thin enamel layer and a thinner inner or dentin layer compared to permanent teeth. Baby teeth aid in the growth and development of the jaw bones and hold space for the adult teeth to erupt.

Teeth: Baby teeth are smaller. The enamel is thinner, and the architecture of the enamel is different, less resistant to damage. Baby teeth roots desolve away so that permanent teeth can erupt. Permanent tooth roots last a lifetime. Baby teeth and permanent teeth differ in shape. Orientation is different, for example baby incisors are more vertical, permanent incisors are more protrusive.
