Periodontal Disease: Periodontal disease causes the gums to recede, and smokers have a higher incidence of periodontitis. Inhaled toxins, irritating hot smoke, decreased salivary flow resulting in dry mouth and an increase of calculus, delayed healing, and constricted blood vessels all are factors.
