Leg Calve Perthes: Disease can be isolated or familial. Avascular necrosis of the femoral head occurs in growing children. The familial type, caused by heterozygous mutation in the COL2A1 gene on chromosome 12q13, is thought to be multi-factorial, with a recurrence rate of ~3%. It's commonly seen in kids aged 4-10 years, some say 2-12, & is more common in boys than girls.
