See a doctor : Your friend may have cirrhosis. This is an irreversible scarring of the liver resulting in a loss of function. Your friend needs to be evaluated by a doctor and advised accordingly. It is recommended that your friend stop drinking alcohol and avoid other substances known to be potentially harmful to the liver such as acetaminophen. Fewer drugs is better with liver disease.
