A member asked:

Can i have a beer while on metronidazole? i understand both are metabolized in the liver, so they shouldn't be taken together, but i wonder if one beer is okay. i assume liver damage occurs from drinking in excess and low doses could cause nausea?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Metronidazole: Because of the interaction between the metronidazole and alcohol, I would recommend that you not have any alcohol while taking this medication. It can cause a severe reaction of intense nausea and vomiting that can be difficult to stop. You should also avoid alcohol for 3 days after completing the course of treatment with metronidazole.
