Speak to oncologist: Cancers are classified by the organ and cell type from which they arise, and sometimes by other gene or molecular testing. Staging describes how large or widespread the cancer is; and Stage I generally means small and localized. Surgery is often the treatment of choice for early stage tumors, since they are easiest to remove completely at this stage. A lot also depends on the cancer type.
