Relax: You will be okay, but you need evaluation and appropriate treatment. Overactive thyroid is on cause of frequent and/or prolonged periods, this can be treated with medications. If your thyroid function is normal, then taking birth control pills for at least 3 months will usually restore normal menstrual cycles. You should have your hemoglobin (or blood count) checked, to see if you are anemic.
