A member asked:

8 year old with mild spina bifida. we just found she has 2 cysts on the sacral region of her spine. can cysts be malignant? we are worried

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rare if ever: These are uncommon and usually represent surface cells incorporated in the formation of the cord called a dermoid. These are often just watched over time to see if they behave in a benign way. Removal is often problematic if located within delicate nerve pathways.
