Xray report?: ER physicians focus on immediate life and limb threatening conditions but get sued for missed diagnoses so, tend to overcall. You could get a copy of the xray report if you are really anxious but it's best to get the ortho eval and make sure it's nothing that requires specialized treatment. Keep it elevated if there is swelling, move your fingers to avoid stiffness, and keep the splint in place.

An orthopedic -: -surgeon will most likely X-ray thru the cast so he can document what you came in with, then remove the cast & re X-ray, & should be able to clear things up for you, as well as recommend further care.

Confusing issue: There are 8 bones within the wrist and unfortunately one common injury can be missed, a crack or break in the scaphoid bone that may not be evident on initial x-ray. If this is even remotely possible by exam, the best care would require the immobilization of your wrist and follow up a week later. A new x-ray at that point would pick up this subtle injury. If nothings wrong, they can take it off.
