A member asked:

Hello, is it normal to have very small lumps on the front/middle of the tongue and larger ones on the back the same color as the tongue?

Hard to answer: This is hard to tell without seeing them. There are some larger lumps at the back of the tongue that are normal. They are taste buds, There are also normal bumps on front of tongue called papillae. Look at some pictures of bumps on tongue on google and if yours do not look like this then see your doctor or dentist for exam.

It could be normal: There are small lumps all over the tongue as part of its normal anatomy. At times, some may appear slightly more prominent. Worrying signs (especially if using tobacco) include ulcers, white/red plaques or streaks, anything with scabbed on appearance, deep fissures, or general discoloration or swelling. Other alarm features are inability to move the tongue to one side, pain, cheesy growth.
