A member asked:

I have a j-pouch, will it be hard for me to get pregnant? could anything happen to my health during the pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seek fertility MD: With a j pouch you are no longer on chemo type drugs. You should wait up to 6 months after stopping certain chemo meds like methotrexate before trying to conceive. Pelvic surgery involved in a j-pouch lowers the odds of having a pregnancy by 5times. There is only a small risk of increase in congenital problems but low birth weight and preterm births can happen more often. Talk to fertility MD.
