May have no change: When you have an infection, virus or other, the family of white blood cells that is fighting the most will be elevated. For example, in common viruses the lymphocytes will often be the predominant white blood cell by number. In some infections, more often with bacterial infections, the total white blood cell number, or wbc, will be elevated.
