A member asked:

Are hypothyroid and hyperthyroid the same thing and are medicines the same?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Opposites: Hypo means low; hyper means high. So hypothyroidism refers to low thyroid hormones levels from an underactive thyroid gland; hyperthyroidism refers to high thyroid hormone levels from an overactive thyroid.
