A member asked:

Do weekly transvaginal ultrasounds disturb cervix with emergent cerclage? if yes - what threats it poses?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually no: Transvaginal ultrasound usually does not disturb the cervix. Transabdominal sonogram may be able to evaluate the cervix. I usually give all women cervical cerclage antenatal steroid for fetal lung maturity around 24 weeks. Thus, the benefit of frequent sonogram of the cervix is to identify women who may benefit from Magnesium Sulfate for cerebral palsy prophylaxis, if a shortened cervix is noted.
