Depends: Depends on your goals. Swimming is a wonderful exercise for muscle tone, non-weight bearing requirements, flexibility, cardio (if fast paced), endurance training, and low impact needs. It involves many muscle groups and targets different ones depending on the stroke. Walking is also great. Can be cardio if fast paced, involves many muscle groups, but mostly legs and hips. Combine for nice workout.

Both are great: exercises. Walking is low-impact exercise that you can do anywhere and anytime. Swimming, on the other hand, requires water.
