Med Allergy: A reaction can happen with any medication you put in your body. If you are terrified then consider asking the prescribing doctor if you can sit in the office for the first time you take the medication....And wait 2 hours.

Citalopram: This anti-depressant medication is thought to be one of the safest and gentlest of the medication available to treat anxiety or depression. If it is being recommended to you then i would not hesitate so that you can get to feeling better in your life.

Citalopram allergy: I agree with dr. Mutnick that any medication can induce an allergic response. Taking the first dose in the doctor's waiting room (or if really concerned, in an er waiting room) could be reassuring to you. However, please also know that over 30 million people have taken citalopram so far -- and i could not find a single reported case of anaphylactic shock with it.
