A member asked:

Surgeons say that the whipple procedure having to do with a pancreatic oncology issue is a major operation. what can this be compared to in intensity?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on Surgeon: The Whipple procedure can be compared in intensity to recovering from open abdominal surgery such as colon, but it is more intensive than just colon surgery. The hospital stay is like open heart surgery - about 7 days. On occasion, a major complication can make stays longer. Hospitals like mine which have high pancreas volume, and small incision options make the outcomes better more often.
