Delayed inflammation: Some of the responses your body has to either the water in the lungs or the lack of oxygen to the brain occur right away, but other responses your body has, including both in the lungs and the brain, are more delayed. That's why we watch these kids for several days, because they may not be out of the woods after the first 24 hours post-injury. Be patient - her body is healing from a huge stress.

Swelling and edema: After a brain injury ( and other injuries too) there is a period of inflammation and swelling that can lead to what is referred to as secondary injury. This often peaks at about 48-72 hours. This period of time requires intense observation and treatment.
