Yes: You can aspirate in that manner and possibly die from it.

Yes: Even a small aspiration can be lethal. Some toxic chemicals, or a solid item may cause severe tracheitis, pneumonia or obstruction. Hypoxia- low oxygen then will lead to brain or total death in some. Gastric contents, booze and acids can do the deed!
