do hiccups hurt new borns?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Justin Greiwe
12 years experience Allergy and Immunology
No: Hiccups are common in babies under a year old and are a completely normal response in a newborn and have no short or long term side effects. Infant hiccups are usually caused by feeding. Unless the hiccups interfere with daily activities like sleeping or eating, there's no need to see a doctor.
