Many causes: The most common causes of vitreous hemorrhage include diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and retinal tear and/or detachment. Less common causes include macular degeneration, macroaneurysm, and inflammation, such as uveitis. Vitreous hemorrhage should be evaluated by a retina specialists.

Diabetes : There are many causes of vitreous hemorrhages. Common causes include diabetes, vitreous separation , coughing. It can be from very serious eye conditions such as retinal detachments, vascular anomalies.

Several: Anything that will cause blood vessels to leak such as diabetes, clotting abnormalities or conditions like leukemia can lead to vitreous hemorrhage, Recent surgery or trauma can also do this. Congenital anomalies such as vascular malformations and some inherited retinal diseases can also do this.
