Types of fibroids: This is a (usually) benign tumor in your uterus. Sometimes these can have calcium deposits ("calcified") and grow outside the normal surface of the uterus ("exophytic")

Dying fibroid: Exophytic fibroids are those that grow away from the uterus. These fibroids tend to cause bulk-related symptoms (exs. increased urinary frequency by pressing on the bladder or pelvic pain by pressing on pelvic nerves). Calcification can be seen in dying/dead fibroids and is of no clinical significance. You can see this calcification on a abdominal x-ray.
