Hand washing is key!: Most viral illnesses last 7-14. With GI illnesses the bug is spread through the mouth and stool (fecal oral spread) and good hand washing is the key to prevention. Some viral illnesses will remain in the stool for months (ie; hand foot and mouth). Most viral illnesses are contagious several days before and 1 week into an illness. So you may be exposed without being aware! Scrub a dub dub!!
