A member asked:

Boyfriend has diabetes, will that put me at risk for miscarriage or having deformed babies? if so what can he do?

No: While a mothers health while carrying the baby is very important, the father has less input. In conception, the most fertile and healthy sperm swim better than any affected by the mans health, and little other than the genetic information is brought to the egg. Diabetes in the mother would effect the pregnancy and might produce a defect, but the fathers would not.

Sugar & sugar "baby": Diabetes(sugar) mellitus by your boyfriend is transmissible genetically to the fetus'(sugar baby) gene pool and increases the possibility of a future diagnosis in the child. However, the risk for miscarriage or fetal deformation is low. I hope this answer gives your "sweet dreams."
