Mucous: Without placing your mucous under a microscope to examine it, it is impossible to know what these are, but usually represents particles from the air. Do you live where there is a great deal of air pollution?

Black specs in mucus: Mucus serves several functions including filtering stuff in the air we breath - this could be smoke particles from wood smoke or if you live in a dusty environment. Sometimes blood as it gets old can appear dark in mucus. If its not a regular occurence probably nothing to worry about if it keeps happening you probably should see your doctor.
