Maybe, maybe not: Hard to know without knowing more about your menstrual history. If going through more than a couple pads or tampons an hour means you probably need to see a gynecologist about the bleeding.

Not normal.: Unless you do this every month, severe bleeding with clots isn't normal. It can sometimes be a miscarriage or other problem. You might want to have it checked out. Best wishes!

Progesterone: Your ovaries are not producing enough progesterone the two weeks before your period. This may be due to stress and/or poor diet. Inadequate progesterone production the two weeks before your period allows the lining of your uterus to become too thick---> inc period blood flow. Inadequate progesterone also allows your estrogen to form the clots. Go see your gynecologist for evaluation and treatment
