Rat caecum: Well im not a vet but ill tell you what i know. A rat has the ability to digest cellulose which is present in all plants. A rat is able to do this because of the caecum. The caecum contains the symbiotic bacteria and cellulase enzyme that are responsible for breaking down cellulose from plant materials. I hope this was helpful
