About 1 week: If you have had oral sex with someone who has chlamydia, you may get this infection in your throat, which can lead to painful swallowing, cough, and fever. Killing the bacteria happens very quickly after the med is taken. In general, it is best to wait 1 to 2 weeks after the medication is taken to make sure bacteria are successfully treated. If symptoms persist after 1 week, contact your Doc.
