Rule out angina: At your age and sex you need to make sure this is not an heart-related pain. See a doctor for a stress test and ekg. If that is normal consider tzietz's syndrome, which is an inflammation of a joint where a rib joins the breast bone, and which readily responds to cortisone injection.
