Neutropenia, low : white cell count, occurs 1/3rd of people with DS;macrocytosis, large red blood cells persist in 2/3rds & are not usually related to B 12 deficiency. A borderline level of B12 warrants obtaining levels of folic acid, methylmalonic acid, homocysteine, Free T4 & Ultrasensitive TSH. Low Vitamin D levels are associated with obesity, common in DS. Further evaluation by a hematologist is warranted.
