Calories: It's the calories in beer that may cause trouble breathing. When the carbohydrates in beer are metabolized, there is more CO2 production in the blood sysytem. Therefore, high levels of C02 stimulates the brain's respiratory center to increase the rate of breathing. Thus, shortness of breath occurs.
