Premature Thelarche: Breast bud development before the age of 8 yrs is considered premature. If it is an isolated finding (no other secondary sexual characteristics) then it is considered "benign" and no other work-up is required. If there are other findings then it is often consistent with "precocious puberty" and further work-up is necessary. Schedule a visit with your child's pediatrician for further evaluation.
