Hemochromatosis: Alcohol consumption can cause liver disease with high serum levels of ALT and AST. However, it is very unusual for a high ferritin level to be associated with alcohol consumption. Alcoholics are more often anemic and have low ferritin levels. There is a congenital disorder, called hemochromatosis, which is associated with high ferritin levels, and causes liver damage.
