Push fluids!: This was poor advice and is a reminder you can't trust everything you read online! What you are experiencing is what would be expected even with diluted bleach. If you can swallow, keep drinking water or milk. If you can't swallow or symptoms worsen, go to Emergency Room immediately. You may need a nasogastric tube and IV fluids. Terrible Mistake: You should be evaluated by a physician for chemical burns and the swelling. You should heal, but let a physician take a look and monitor your condition.

Call 911: A swollen tongue can result from trauma or allergy. Sudden tongue swelling can sometimes be dangerous because it could block your airway. Call 911, do not drive.
