See dentist ASAP: Please see a dentist as soon as possible. You need to treat the problem, not just mask it with painkillers. The dentist, once he is seen will advise if an antibiotic is needed in addition. I would advise not to take more pain medication until the problem is diagnosed.

Tooth pain: The most important thing for your husband to do is see a dentist ASAP. Your husband can take 600 to 800mg ibuprophen every 6 hours. He can supplement with 2 Tylenol (acetaminophen) if he still has pain and these are safe medications for him. Get him to a dentist.

See a dentist ASAP: The tooth pain won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. You can use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control. The maximum ibuprofen dose for adults is 800 mg per dose or 3200 mg per day. See a dentist ASAP for assessment and treatment.

2400 mg/day: Maximum dose is 2400 mg/day; additional ibuprofen does not give additional pain relief without greater risks of harmful effects. Better to add an extra-strength tylenol (acetaminophen).

3200 mg/day: Do not take more than your recommended dose. An ibuprofen overdose can damage your stomach or intestines. The maximum dosage for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses). Use only the smallest amount of ibuprofen needed to get relief from your pain, swelling, or fever.
