My mom had chiari decompression almost 9 months ago, and she's in a lot of pain, and i'm wondering, is this a part of the healing process?

Not enough info: It would not be considered normal to have severe headaches so long after chiari decompression surgery. However, brain surgery patients often have headaches postoperatively for weeks to months. Consultation with her surgeon would certainly be indicated with severe symptoms as you described.

Please see below: What reason was the decompression done for? Having worsened symptoms after chiari surgery can happen including headaches . This is why chiari decompression is controversial unless done for gross neurologic deficit or a syrinx formation.
