A member asked:

What do you think about vit k, magnesium, vit d and rice bran extract as antidotes to coronary calcification? why do docs only focus on lowering chol?

Worthless: None of these (except vitamin d) will do anything positive for coronary calcification or any other bodily function. Doctors focus on cholesterol along with many other factors because doing so saves lives. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet -- if you do, you will die sooner than necessary.

Scientific evidence: Doctors focus on treatments where there is rigorous scientific research that proves their effectiveness. There is strong evidence to prove that lowering cholesterol prevents coronary disease. A healthy diet, exercise and quitting smoking also helps. There no good evidence that vitamin or magnesium supplements help. There may be some weak evidence to support rice bran extract and vitamin d.

Vitamin K2 : There is a definitive connection between vitamin k2 levels and heart disease. A large-scale, well-controlled clinical trial in 2004 rotterdam heart study tracked 4, 800 participants for 7 years. The study revealed that participants who had the greatest quantities of vitamin k2 in their diet experienced a 57% reduction in death from heart disease.
