A couple of things: Often cramping is associated with ovulation at mid-cycle. If this has not happened to you before, it can be surprising. Usually OTC anti-inflammatories such as naproxen or ibuprofen, along with a heating pad, will help. Fibroids or ovarian cysts can also cause mid-cycle pain, but would likely persist or intensify. Yes: Ovulation often happens about that time and can cause some normal cramping ("mittelschmertz"). Continued cramping is not typical, though. You may want to check a pregnancy test, or get tested for infections if you have any discharge, odor, or burning when you urinate.
